Confessions of a Telly Addict

The telly is addictive. For me, at least. I can watch anything and everything boradcasted. Sitcoms, movies, cartoons, news programs, debates, discussions, foreign movies, MTV, cooking shows, documentaries, soaps, cultural performances, etc, etc. I can vegetate in front of the telly 3 hours weekdays and up to eleven hours on weekends.

This morning, a timely wake up call arrived. Deciding to sleep in a little today, I woke up a little later than normal, still woozy and hobbling into the kitchen to pour myself a cup of orange juice, ready to live out my perfect, lazy Sunday. Then there it was. The loud blaring of the telly. My mum was watching a movie in a foreign language at 10.30am! I never really thought about how unsettling the noise was to others, until experiencing it this morning.

So starting today, I am pledging to turn off the telly and just live a little more. However tired I am after work. I pledge to talk. To sip a little wine and to eat dinner with company, not in front of the telly. I think its grand idea. Nina has discussed this tv addiction phenomenon previously, even going as far as declaring her Tuesdays tv-free, but I couldnt join in before. I wasnt ready. I still cant do that yet, switching off the tv for an entire day, but I refuse to watch it mindlesslyat the expense of my life. So what is your bad habit that you'd like to get rid off?

Hey Dash, I know what you mean....
I find that when the tv is not on for a few hours in the house the kids come up with more and more interactive and fun things to play with, my hubby likes to watch it really loud(he's having a hard time hearing lately) and it drives me crazy.
my bad habit is not wanting to spend money on my pedicures, i do it at home and it's just not as much fun :)

TV can be sooo addictive! But I have weened off it. There are only 3 shows I watch each week - but I know that if left alone too long, I could watch all day! Especially the Food Network!

Anu: Good luck with the abstinence!:) What is on Aug 25th at 6pm ?(if its not too private)..Im dying to know what warrants alcohol abstinence.

Marinik: Hey marinik, I know what you mean too,..! Just yesterday, to avoid watching tc, i fond myself reading, taking a walk, etc. I feel so happy and connected now! Oh, and Im totally like you on th pedicure bit! it really is lovely to have someone do it for you, but its just so darn expensive!!! you and i have a bad habit to break with that one.

Dionne:Congratulations, sweets. Im aspiring to limit it to3 shows a day. For now.:)Although if i really had to choose, itd be How I Met your mother, Project Runway and Ugly Betty.

Nina: THanks so much, Nina. Its been a real favour. I owe you one! oh, and i will definitely let you know how my television thing is working out. i limited it to 3 hours last night ( as opposed on 8 on a weekend)!!so , so far so good!
